Welcome to Mostly Fine: Adulting, Mishaps & Cuppas

Kia ora.

Welcome to Mostly Fine — a blog about adulting, catastrophes disguised as life lessons, indoor plants plotting their escape, pets auditioning for drama roles, and the occasional glass of wine that absolutely counts as self-care.

Let’s be honest: adulting isn’t taught in school. I still don’t know how to stop locking myself out of the house, run out of milk the moment guests arrive, or keep a fern alive. Some days you spill a cup of tea on your laptop moments before a Zoom call. Some days you realise you’ve been paying for Netflix twice for the last few months. And some days… rocks get thrown through your bedroom window on your first night away from home.

I’m writing this not because I think I have anything particularly interesting to say, but because sometimes it’s good to write this stuff down — to take a step back, look at it objectively, and say: yep, you’re doing alright… mostly. Also, consider this a form of low-cost therapy — except the couch is mine and the advice is questionable. And honestly, it’s therapy for me too. The recent months, the chaos of the past few years… there have been a LOT of life lessons thrown at me. Some handled well, some not so well, and some I had no idea what to do with.

Current mental soundtrack: something loud enough to remind me that life is still mostly fine — probably [Crowded House – Weather With You].

This blog exists for the little things, the mishaps, and the small victories that make life interesting. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Weekly Life Snapshots: a slightly chaotic peek into my week — moods, cuppas, adulting wins/fails, and yes, pets and plants will make cameo appearances.
  • Mini-Posts: when life is too much, there’ll be bite-sized wisdom, or at least a cuppa-and-gingernut moment to remind you that survival is an achievement.
  • Full Posts: stories from my life, lessons I’m learning (mostly by accident), and a mix of humour, honesty, and practical stuff you might actually be able to use.

Mostly Fine isn’t about perfection. It’s about living intentionally, laughing at ourselves, and occasionally embracing chaos like it’s a slightly tipsy friend at the party. If life were pets, some of us might be dogs — loud, enthusiastic, telling everyone everything. Some of us might be cats — quietly hoping no one saw the little disasters. Mostly, we’re somewhere in between. Either way, it’s mostly fine.

Grab a cuppa, maybe a ginger biscuit, and let’s navigate this thing together.

Mostly fine, friends. Mostly fine.
